COMMUNITY ART PROJECT UNVEILING JULY 3RD
July 3 - November 8
COMMUNITY ART PROJECT CELEBRATES DEMOCRACY
Our community came together and created beautiful ceramic tiles expressing What Democracy Means to You – we’ve fired them all and created a ceramic quilt of the public’s expression of Democracy! And it is AMAZING!!
Participants painted tiles inspired by themes such as voting rights, freedom of expressions, equality and civic participation, just to name a few. Ellen Hornstein, Co-Lead for Lawyers Defending American Democracy (LDAD), pointed out to everyone how the simple act of creating these tiles together was an example of our constitutional rights: Freedom of expression and right to peaceably assemble.
What you see as you view the tiles in this display is an artistic depiction of Democracy which is welcoming, creative and community-centered. We hope this encourages people to positively engage with civic ideals through art rather than politics and experience Democracy in a new creative and open manner. ClayGround is a safe space to reflect and converse of the importance of Democracy and the Rule of Law.
